The world is currently suffering from the deadliest disease of this century. The main problem in fighting this deadly disease is that nobody knows how to fight against coronavirus. But we can learn from countries with some success stories. Delhi was one of the first states to have faced the spread of this deadly virus. Delhi Government has been one of the most proactive state governments in the fight against the coronavirus.
Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal declared on 7th April that his government is developing a “5T strategy” to contain COVID-19 spread in Delhi. These 5Ts are Testing, Tracing, Treatment, Teamwork, and Tracking-monitoring. During a press briefing, he explained how countries that stood a step ahead of COVID-19 managed to curb it.
5Ts To Fight Against Coronavirus
1. Testing
The first step is Testing. Without testing it is impossible to contain the disease or fight against coronavirus. Taking an example of South Korea, which has the highest testing rate per million population of 2134/Million was able to find out and quarantine people suffering from COVID-19. Testing, which when done on a large scale enables the actual data of people infected by COVID-19. The government of Delhi has directed testing for nearly 50,000 people and Rapid Testing research rounds for 1 lakh citizens beginning from 11th April. The government would now be able to recognize COVID-19 hotspots like Markaz and Dilshad garden by accelerated monitoring and take appropriate steps to fight against coronavirus.
2. Tracing
The second T is tracing, which includes the identification and quarantining of people who have come in contact with infected people. According to ICMR so far around 2500+ cases have been reported in Delhi, out of which 857 people have successfully recovered while more than 50 deaths have taken place. until vaccine is developed we cannot get complacent. It is imperative for the citizens to cooperate with the government and diligently follow the guidelines. In order to strictly enforce isolation and quarantine of COVID affected patients, police assistance is also taken whenever needed. In this regard 27,702 contact numbers were given to the police to trace the movement of such people. Sealing and Monitoring is another important aspect of this step to fight against coronavirus.
3. Treatment
The third component, he said, is treatment. The LNJP and GB Pant hospitals with 1,500 and 500 beds respectively have been declared primary hospitals for COVID-19 treatment , and no other treatments are being carried out there. In addition, if need be, Rajiv Gandhi hospital has 450 beds making a total of 2,450 beds available in government hospitals and 450 beds at private ones. Serious patients who are suffering from heart diseases and patients above 50 years will be isolated in hospitals and the rest with minor symptoms will be kept in isolation in hotels and Dharamshalas.
4. Teamwork
The fourth element of the five-point plan is teamwork and collective efforts. All-State governments, he said, must learn from each other and work together. There should be a synergy between the center and states to fight against coronavirus. The states among themselves and in collaboration with center should work together . He urged that all the agencies whether its police, medical staff and government bodies, everyone needs to come together. This teamwork will be incomplete without public support. Communities should help the needy in society and we will have to be benevolent and not selfish.
5. Tracking and Monitoring
The fifth T, he said, is tracking and monitoring. The Chief Minister himself has taken the responsibility of Tracking and Monitoring of the coronavirus cases in Delhi. He will make sure all of these initiatives are in place and that all schemes are working smoothly. He will supervise everything 24×7.
Operation S.H.I.E.L.D To Fight Against Coronavirus
Another plan carried out by the Delhi government is operation shield It was first tested in the Dilshad Garden area of Delhi. Operation Shield has managed to stop the transmission of coronavirus in Dilshad Garden to a large extend and no new case has been reported in the past 10 days. Delhi government identified containment zones in different parts of Delhi. The operation shield is implemented in 30 locations
S in Shield stands for Sealing. Areas surrounding these locations will be sealed and nobody will be allowed to leave or enter these areas. People living around these areas will be asked to home quarantine themselves. I stand for Isolation and tracing of the people who have been first and second contacts. E stands for the Essential supply of commodities. Delhi government will supply the essential commodities to the needed one. L stands for Local sanitization of the area by the authorities. There will be massive sanitation drives High Tech Japanese machines will be used. D stands for the door to door check of everyone living in the area. Masks are made compulsory in Delhi.
Conclusion
According to ICMR so far around 2500+ cases have been reported in Delhi, out of which 857 people have successfully recovered while more than 50 deaths have taken place. until a vaccine is developed we cannot get complacent. It is imperative for the citizens to cooperate with the government and diligently follow the guidelines. The future course of action should be collectively agreed upon ensuring minimal hardship to the common man.
