Living In Present Moment – The Art Of Now

Living in present

Do you have a habit of forgetting small-small things? Like where you had kept your specs, where your black socks are, you forgot where you kept the key last time, & the list continues. If yes, then this doesn’t mean that you are suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease or had short-term memory loss problem. The problem is you aren’t living in the present moment, either you are stuck in the past or wandering in the future.

We will discuss the problem caused due to not living in the present moment and also I’ll share some tips how you could be in the present moment and what are the benefits of living in the present moment.

Don’t Become Slave Of Your Thought

“The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, nor to worry about the future, but to live the present moment wisely and earnestly.” – Gautam Buddha

When you’re on work you dreamed of vacation, when you’re on vacation you worry about your work.

Why did we start becoming a slave of our thoughts? What is the possible reason which shaped our thinking pattern like this?

Example – When we are in college we used to fantasize about our school days. When we started working we used to remember our college memories. When we become old we start rejoicing our youth.
But the harsh truth is none of the times is perfect or regretful. Remember in your school times how much you hated school because of homework & you are stuck with people who use to bully you; how badly you wanted to grow up and go to college. The same is applicable for college days also.

We used to only remember those times which was good ignoring the bad ones, this gives the illusion that our past was good than the present ; the same tactics we also used for the future, how good our future will be.
This is called living in the fragments of past & future that help us to escape present reality.

Make Your Present More Awesome

Think present moment as a flowing river you can’t hold it, even if you try to hold or stop it starts giving foul odor. What you can do is just jump on it and enjoy the freshwater.

The reason why we roam in the past & future is that our present moment is not up to our expectations. But remembering or worrying about good and bad times also not gonna help right? So, why don’t we utilize this precious gift of time to the fullest? Enjoy every bit of your day, love what you do, stop complaining about your instead be thankful for your privileges you’re enjoying. Squeeze every bit of second the way you want the way you like.

Being in the present moment makes you more mindful, maintain your blood-sugar level, increases your energy level, makes you more optimistic.

2 Golden Tips For Living In Present Moment

1) Live in day compartment: it’s good to plan long term goals for 1 or 5 years, but do a favor to yourself stop thinking and worrying about that every single day. You had prepared long-term that’s good now start living one day at a time.

Just think about today, what you’re gonna do to make most of it. There’s no need of thinking about tomorrow or yesterday and believe me if you still think about that it’ll lead you nowhere.

Note: this technique is from Dale Carnegie’s book ‘How to stop worrying and start living’ I suggest you have a look.

2) Take a deep breath: after reading this I know what you’re thinking now. Stop, just do what I said if you still don’t believe this technique. Take a deep breath for 5 seconds. Stop. Repeat again. Have a look at your surrounding for 5 more seconds. Don’t you feel any difference, isn’t your mind is more relaxed than before?

This is the most ancient technique also taught in Buddhism, Taoism, Jainism and the list continues. This breathing practice could also be mastered through meditation.
